4. Caroline Cutout; 10.17.10; 5:35 PM; Rexburg, Idaho; f 5.0; 1/60; Canon Rebel XSi
5. Caroline Cutout Yellow; 10.17.10; 5:35 PM; Rexburg, Idaho; f 5.0; 1/60; Canon Rebel XSi

These images were both taken earlier this semester, but I thought they would be fun to do as cut outs. I used the refine edges after I used the quick selection tool and made a couple different selections to make sure the images were precise and included the hair. It was the small things that changed the image to make it look like it could have the different background. I changed the background on both cutouts and gave it a gradient. I was hoping to put both images into a different location, but didn't have any images that I liked to put them in.

Night and Light

6. Colors in Light; 11.10.10; 8:29 PM; Rexburg, Idaho; f 5.6; 1.0; Canon Rebel XSi
7. Beginning; 11.09.10; 8:07 PM; Rexburg, Idaho; f 5.6; .8; Canon Rebel XSi

I took these pictures to fulfill a night and light project. We were to do a couple different techniques using the camera and different shutter speeds. The first image has light shining on the snow from the cars that were turning by the tree. I liked the look of it. The second image is the same place but you can see the car lights driving through the image. It looks cool, but I like the look of the first image better. I slightly lightened both of the images using levels. I really liked the colors and the texture of the dwindling flame picture. This image is straight from the camera with no additional edits. I like the burning color in the head of the match and the light of the flame. Highlighted was taken in my bathroom. It is the shower curtain lit up by the light of my cell phone. I thought it looked kinda neat how I just highlighted one are. Loopy was taken in the same area. I moved the light of my cell phone around to capture the movement. I liked the light and the colors from the phone so I used it again for the next image. I place my phone on the ground and moved my camera around. The same technique was used with the last image as well. I move the camera as I was lighting matches. The shutter speed was pretty quick but still able to capture the moment right before the flame was fully lighted.

Memory of Grandpa

Memory of Grandpa; 24x36; 9.17.2010; 6:12 PM; Hiese, Idaho; Canon Rebel XSi; Aperature Priority; f 5.6; 1/200 sec; Gradient Map, Text, Underpainting, drybrush, and palette knife filters, Multiply and screen copies, levels, curves.

I choose this image because it evokes the most emotion in me. When I think of idaho, I think of my great grandparents and making summer visits to them. I miss them. Whenever I think of Grandpa, I think of him sitting in his rocking chair in the corner of their living room reading the newspaper, working in the garden, or off fishing. This picture of the fisherman reminded me of him and brought back many memories. The quote that I choose to go with it also is something that is inspiring to me. It helps me remember that I need to help bring others to Christ and to teach them and guide them so that they can do the same. I edited the picture to make it look like a painting. I first did all the edits that I wanted to it to make it look nice and then I applied a couple of different filters to it and took screen shots of the image. I used the history brush to paint back the textures and edits from each of the filters. I applied a gradient map to give it a look that wasn't so green. I like the way it turned out and the memories that it brings into my mind as I look at it. It will be something that I will be happy to hang in my home that will remind me of what Idaho means to me.

For this project we were asked to take a picture a day for a week. This was a fun experience, but at times I wondered what I would take a picture of that didn't just look like I pulled out my camera and shoot something that wasn't that great or didn't have a good relation to my day. Although I felt a little pressure with that thought floating in my mind, I felt like I did a good job at accomplishing the task at hand and captured some images that remind me of things I did and things I love. Tuesday we made caramel apples at a stake party. In this picture I duplicated the layer a couple times adding different filters and then overlayed a gradient map. I love the ooieness of the caramel you can see and the juiciness of the apple. Wednesday is my temple day so I found it fitting to take a picture of the temple. I go to the temple in the morning, but didn't have time to take the picture till later that night, hence the dark sky. I like to take different views or perspectives of the Temple. I think we all still know what it is and the greatness of that Holy place, even if it isn't a full view of the Temple. Thursday I had a yummy breakfast burrito dinner at my friends house and as he was walking me home I noticed the sky changing different colors. I went inside and grabbed my camera a couple minutes later and ran out to take pictures. The sky was changing so quickly, but this was one of the images I loved the most. I didn't adjust it at all. Friday, I captivated the image of carving a pumpkin. I love the texture that you can see on the pumpkin as well. I did the same edit that I did for the picture of the caramel apple to this picture as well. Saturday, we spent the evening playing games. Blokus is one of my favorites! I dominated, not to mention, but I thought this was a fun picture. I love playing games so it is a good memory for me. Sunday, once again the sky was amazing. It changed from an orange state to pinks and purples pretty quickly. To the east there was a rainbow. I thought it was so pretty and such a fun reminder of our Heavenly Fathers love for us! Monday for FHE we went to TwizlBerry. I took this picture of my roommates ice cream that looked so tasty. I slightly adjusted the levels and curves.

Photolusion

1. Jared; 10.23.10; 5:41 PM; Rexburg, Idaho; f 5.6; 1/30; Canon Rebel XSi
2. Sam; 10.28.10; 9:28 PM; Rexburg, Idaho; f 5.6; 1/10; Canon Rebel XSi
3. Shells; Espon Scanner; Rexburg, Idaho
4. Ice; Espon Scanner; Rexburg, Idaho
5. Heart; Espon Scanner; Rexburg, Idaho
6. Hearts
7. Graffiti

For this assignment we were supposed to create a photolusion, something that wasn't real, but looked like it could be. For these images I took pictures of my friends and made it so you could "see their hearts." I used a scanner to upload the textures and heart so that I could photoshop them to look like the type of heart I was planning for them to have. I dropped the saturation a ton in the final photo so that the focus would be more on the heart in the images. I also had the graffiti photo and thought it was fun, so I put it up. I took a picture of my roommates and then photoshoped the pictures of the Jamaica men in from an old image that I had from a vacation.

Edge Effects

1. Rexburg Temple; 10.17.10; 5:54 PM; Rexburg, Idaho; f 5.0; 1/60; Canon Rebel XSi
2. Falls River; 10.19.10; 4:36 PM; Ashton, Idaho; f 11; 1/40; Canon Rebel XSi
3. Tetons; 10.19.10; 4:28 PM; Ashton, Idaho; f 11; 1/60; Canon Rebel XSi

I took these images and edited them all in camera raw and photoshop. I slightly enhanced the colors and saturation in Tetons. In Falls River, I adjusted the shadows and highlights to give the picture a little more of a dramatic look. The photo of the Rexburg Temple is pretty straight from the camera. I adjusted the levels slightly. I added borders to each one of them. Rexburg Temple I added a border and title by increasing the canvas size and adding color to it. I pulled the color from the image and then added a title with a color from the image as well. Falls River I did a flexible brushed-on effect and then added a double border by increasing the canvas size. I then added a title. I pulled the colors from the image. I created a burned border with a slight pin stripe around it for the Tetons image. I did this by duplicating the layer, adding the multiply effect and then deleting the middle of the image so it would revert to the original. All the borders create a different look for the images and add some life.

Scanography

1. Love; 10.23.10; Rexburg, Idaho; Epson Scanner; Canon Rebel XSi
2. Flowers; 10.23.10; Rexburg, Idaho; Canon Rebel XSi
3. Lemon; 10.23.10; Rexburg, Idaho; Canon Rebel XSi
4. Tag; 10.23.10; Rexburg, Idaho; Canon Rebel XSi
5. Lemons; 10.23.10; Rexburg, Idaho; Canon Rebel XSi
6. Lemons; 10.23.10; Rexburg, Idaho; Canon Rebel XSi
7. Be an Original; 10.23.10; Rexburg, Idaho; Canon Rebel XSi

I took all these images using a epson scanner. I must say, using the scanner as my camera is not my favorite because there is only so much I can put on a scanner. However, these images increased my versatility and made me think a little outside the box. I merged the lemon, oranges, and tag to create the "Be an Original" image. I think it is fun. The colors turned out nice and the concept seems to be clear. It was hard for me to figure out what I wanted to do for the image that we didn't edit at all. I used block letters that I made that spelled out love as well as my bouquet from my friends wedding.

Enhancements Edits

1. Jackie; 10.16.10; 12:19 PM; Rexburg, Idaho; f 5.6; 1/400; Canon Rebel XSi
2. Jersey; 10.16.10; 12:38 PM; Rexburg, Idaho; f 5.6; 1/500; Canon Rebel XSi
3. Rival; 10.16.10; 12.:08 PM; Rexburg, Idaho; f 8.0; 1/320; Canon Rebel XSi
4. What; 10.16.10; 12:34 PM; Rexburg, Idaho; f 5.6; 1/640; Canon Rebel XSi
5. Dream Big; 9.29.10; 12:06 PM; Bannack, Montana; f 5.0; 1/20; Canon Rebel XSi

These pictures were all very fun to edit! I did different things to all of them, but had an great time with each enhancement. The photograph of Jackie, I enhanced the color, smoothed out her skin a bit and softened the photograph. I also changed the sky color and evened it out. The portrait of the jersey I simply selected the jersey and changed the color by using the color replacement. I really liked the purple and feel like it made the photograph pop a little more. The original picture of the rival was kind of light and almost blown out. I found a picture that had a darker look to it and did match color. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I liked the way it brought out the sky and the subjects of the picture. The dream big photograph was done by following a tutorial and pulling out the luminosity and adding a gradient to the picture. I really liked the picture, but the subject was a little out of focus when I shot the image. It was really fun to edit. I also added the gradient to the letter "e."

Portraits

2. Gardener; 9.18.10; 7:47 am; Idaho Falls, Idaho; f 5.6; 1/1000; Canon Rebel XSi
3. Focus; 10.16.10; 12:38 pm; Rexburg, Idaho; f 5.6; 1/500; Canon Rebel XSi
4. Fall; 10.17.10; 5:39 pm; Rexburg, Idaho; f 4.5; 1/60; Canon Rebel XSi
5. Caroline; 10.17.10; 5:26 pm; Rexburg, Idaho; f 8.0; 1/40; Canon Rebel XSi
6. Mike; 9.29.10; 9:32 am; Dubois, Idaho; f 5.0; 1/1000; Canon Rebel XSi

These pictures were all a variety of portraits that I have shot this semester. I enhanced some of them more then others by softening, adding vibrance, adjusting levels, and softening skin. The picture of Ash and Bri, Carolin, and Mike I multiplied the layers a couple of times and added multiply, screen, and overlay modes. I then added a gradient map to make the colors pop a little more. It wasn't a big adjustment, but something that was slight enough but made the image a little more interesting.
